Activities and Events
2025 brings the return of Divot Repair Day. We are working on aesthetic improvements near the #6 tee box on Brittany by embracing Arkansas native plantings. We continue to maintain the hitting nets with larger targets. The wall around the flowerbed in the parking lot was stabilized and chocolate rock was added as a ground cover for less maintenance.
2024 featured a refresh of the Hitting nets, replacing the mulch with stones. After a very cold winter, we worked on some of the planting beds to reduce the maintenance requirements. This included putting a cap on the wall behind #7 green, shifting the daffodils to above the mow line and using chocolate rock as the ground cover. We also replaced plantings on #2 green area with other, more cold hearty and drought tolerant plants. The redbuds and dogwoods planted a few years ago are starting to grow.
We also funded an update to the Maintenance Team Break Area - last updated in the 1980's. New tables, chairs and kitchen area were installed. We finished the year with the Annual Staff Appreciation Holiday Dinner.
2023 starts off with our Annual Divot Repair Day and Social on April 25th. We welcome Jimmy Jordan as the new Pro Shop Supervisor.
A tree will be planted in early May in memory of our friend Dale Dyer. We are expanding the wildflower meadow by #13 and planting wildflowers by #8 where we lost the trees last year. The tournament is scheduled for Labor Day on Brittany and Dogwood.
2022 activities were focused on enhancing areas that were created in prior years. We expanded the display behind #2 green with planting of over 20 trees and decorative shrubs. We assisted the golf maintenance team with the hole monument stones areas and provided mulch and new mats for the hitting nets. In Spring, the Divot Repair Day and Social was great fun.
2021 projects focused on recovery from the February frost including staff appreciation, maintenance of the Azalea Garden by #2 green, and replacement of several mature plants. An extra water source was added behind #2 and several large trees were trimmed. The targets for the hitting nets were replaced. In the meadow, we watched the blue cornflowers bloom in the spring and a selection of yellow blooms in July. Divot Repair Day was held in April with over 25 participants.
In the Fall we worked on the flower bed beyond the #7 green. The day included thinning the iris, relocating some of the day lillies, planting nandina and crepe myrtle, and repositioning a few of the 'volunteer' burning bushes. We should have nice colors all season.
In December, we sponsored our Staff Appreciation Christmas Lunch. We had a great selection of dishes donated by the Friends of Dogwood and had a wonderful meal with the Operations and Maintenance staff that make Dogwood/Brittany such a fun golfing experience. We also had the opportunity to say goodbye to Paul Gomez, who was transferred to Kingsdale, and welcomed Gary Davis back as the Operations Supervisor.
2020 projects focused on first impressions. A bold presentation of azaleas and other plantings around the #2 green was funded by the 24/7/365 Neighborhood group. We replaced the planting bed in the parking lot with a natural stone border and refreshed the bed near the clubhouse. 3 new dogwoods were added. Corkboard was added to the scoreboard for easier use. Planted a Monarch Meadow between #6 green & #14 tee. Planted 9 Norway Spruce seedlings north of #15 cart path.
2019 projects were a redesign of the hitting area, the addition of a stone walkway, and surrounding grass. The Beautification team planted 3 trees and general maintenance of the garden beds. In the fall, we planted over 1,000 daffodils on the Back 9.
2018 projects included a warm-up area featuring 3 hitting bays, new water holders, and a variety of beautification projects including the planting of over 1,000 daffodils on the front 9, enhancements on the #7 tee and green, #5 tee plus a variety of native trees.
2017 projects included the scoreboard and restructuring planting beds on #5, #7 tee box and #7 green. We also planted a row of pine seedlings on #10. We have periodic volunteer opportunities to work on projects or assist with the tournament.
